Site Evaluation Summary

Both of my site evaluations with Dr. Saint Martin were over video chat, but that didn’t make them any less effective. The evaluations began with me presenting a patient, we then spent some time discussing the details of the patient. These discussions included both the approach that my preceptor took to treating the patient, and my proposed treatment plan. I found the time spent discussing the patient to be very helpful. Each H&P gives a snapshot in time, a picture of what the patient looked like at the time that I wrote it. But in psychiatry, as in other specialties, patients and their presentations change rapidly, because of this, really discussing the patient as a whole, allowed me to examine and analyze them from a more holistic point of view. During my second evaluation, I also presented the article that I chose. We discussed the benefits and shortcomings of the article, the study type and how it was conducted. We also discussed the different approaches providers in psychiatry take, and how less formal is often more effective with these patients. My evaluations with Dr. Saint Martin were very thorough, which I found to be very beneficial. He made some recommendations regarding my list of differentials and treatments, which I will continue to work on in my coming rotations.
